The Most Overlooked Source For Qualified Applicants
One of the problems I see most often when companies are actively trying to hire is that HR professionals are spending the majority of their time focusing their applicant sourcing efforts in all the wrong places.
What they don't realize is that while some sources (such as job boards) might be attracting more applicants, unless highly qualified, those candidates are just bogging down their hiring process.
And, since more applicants doesn't necessarily mean more hires, companies should instead be looking at which sources are the most powerful in their ability to convert applicants into new hires.
I just recently finished up a huge study looking at 1.2 million applicants across a 6 month period. The goal of this study was to identify where all of the applicants came from in order to pinpoint which sources were recruiting the most hires.
I used my Sourcing Power Tool to rank each with a sourcing power score -- the conversion rate of people who apply from each source that actually get hired.
What I found was extremely valuable.
In today's video, I wanted to share with you what I discovered as one of the most overlooked sources for qualified applicants -- your own company career site. Check it out!

When we dug deeper into this study, we found that although not many people applied through company career sites, those who did were 8x more likely to be hired.
Now, if you could increase the number of job seekers who see your jobs and apply through your company career site, you'd have a larger pool of qualified applicants.
This can be accomplished by first increasing traffic using these simple steps:
- Make sure it's easy to find the link to your company career site on your website
- Connect your Facebook page to your company career site
- Drive employee referrals
Now that the traffic is there, how can you get those job seekers to start applying?
If you haven't already, be sure to watch the video for simple changes you must make in order to convert these job seekers into applicants!
As promised, here is my Sourcing Power Tool to help you dive deeper into your own sourcing efforts to identify your company's power sources.
