A Day in the Life of a Head Teller

As a head teller, you inspire your teller team to achieve success in service and sales, as well as facilitating open communication with other departments within the branch. You typically coordinate the opening and closing balancing processes in order to ensure they’re done accurately, with attention to detail, and with adherence to proper procedures. You schedule work hours and breaks for all teller personnel.

You are always learning about new technologies and ways to improve our processes, and, then, teaching your team about them. You also coach new tellers in order to help them be successful.

You are the one that performs the high-level tasks for the teller team. Some examples of these tasks are handling high cash orders, approving checks above regular teller approval limits, addressing member complaints, authorizing system overrides, balancing the vault, and assisting with resolving balancing concerns. You also keep logs and perform audits.

You also have plenty of opportunities throughout the day to develop good relationships with our members, as well as your fellow employees. You get great satisfaction out of keeping our front line running smoothly.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year teller experience

The ideal candidate will have worked for several years in customer service and also have had some experience with sales and leadership. Abilities and attributes required to excel at this job include excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong math and computer skills, attention to detail and accuracy, ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment, good leadership skills, and a love for serving the public. But really, if you’ve been working as a teller and loving it and have great leadership skills, you probably have what it takes!
