A Day in the Life of a Chief Lending Officer

As the vice president of lending, you work closely with the CEO to carry out the mission of [Insert name of credit union here] as it pertains to loans. You design an annual business plan for those departments.

In accordance with your business plan, you develop policies and procedures for our lending and collections departments and help them implement them. You develop new loan products. You use metrics to analyze the loan portfolio and ensure compliance with profitability and risk guidelines. You work with the CEO and CFO to create the budget for the lending department. You are also called upon from time to time to approve loan exceptions.

You oversee underwriting, ensuring that policies and regulations are being followed. You lead, coach, mentor, and inspire our lending professionals. You develop a culture of positivity and above-and-beyond service in your departments.

You network and represent [Insert name of credit union here] at community and industry events. Qualifications

BA in business, finance, accounting, related field or CUNA Certified Credit Union Executive certification or 8 years of relevant experience
Minimum of 6 years of lending experience, to include experience with consumer, mortgage, and commercial lending
Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Proficiency with lending software
In-depth knowledge of underwriting
Familiarity with lending regulations
Must be eligible for registration with NMLS
