Lexington has created a Human Services Internship program to help introduce high school students to our field of work. In this paid internship, this work allows the student to learn about working at Lexington in a supportive and closely supervised manner, positioning them to become successful, long-term employees.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Assist Lexington staff who provide support to individuals under the direction of the Manager/Direct Support Coordinator.
  • Assist with household errands and tasks such as cleaning, laundry, gardening, and special projects as identified.
  • Accompany fully-qualified staff and people we support to appointments and community settings and activities such as going out to dinner, to the movies, going to a park, participating in Special Olympics, attending a sports event or other activities.
  • Communicate with persons receiving services, using verbal and non-verbal techniques promoting social interaction and companionship.
  • Engage with people we support providing companionship, and support their interests in arts, crafts, sports, games, and other hobbies/activities.

Qualifications:

  • Must be actively enrolled in a High School program (16-17 years old) and possess required NYS working papers.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a basic job skills assessments and required training.
  • Communicates effectively with others at work verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates basic computer skills.
  • Must successfully complete all pre-screening and training requirements required by regulation.

The Human Services Intern is part of a team responsible for the daily well-being and safety of individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities in a residential community home or day habilitation setting. They will also act as an "ambassador" at job fair and recruitment events.
