Job Description:

Substitutes, as needed in the kitchen. Help prepare, distribute and transport meals for up to 200 children and adults in a preschool setting. Have direct responsibility for on-site kitchen, meal production, transportation and other compliance with USDA regulations and sanitation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Prepare, season, and cook food in quantities necessary for up to 200 child servings in a preschool setting. Ensure that all food is fresh, properly prepared and serve in an appetizing manner.

2. Must transport food to offsite locations.

3. Must meet the daily schedule for meal times for each class.

4. Must be able to separate bulk frozen, canned or non-perishable food to meet production record requirements. Must also be able to separate bulk cooked food to send to on-site classrooms, in accordance with USDA and CACFP preparation and serving requirements. (Training will be provided)

5. Keep kitchen area, work areas, equipment, and utensils clean. Operate commercial dishwasher.

6. May be asked to participate in staff training, menu planning etc.

7. Other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:


1. Graduation from a standard high school or GED equivalency

2. Cooking ability [successful experience in institutional food service either in school food service or the private sector preferred]

3. Time management skills and ability to work without direct supervision

4. Records management and basic math skills [will train in paperwork]

5. Responsible, dependable, in good health and able to lift 45-60 pounds and carry it for 15 yards.

6. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.


1. One year experience in institutional food service desired

2. Experience with USDA regulations and records desired
