Read Better Be Better (RBBB) is looking to hire an entrepreneurial, progressive and driven Development Director to head our Development Department!

Our ideal candidate is passionate about fighting the literacy crisis in Arizona, excited about grassroots and community-centric fundraising, and ready to influence the operations and future of RBBB. This position will oversee the work of two of our coordinators, so applicants should ideally have some management experience. As this is a new position, the hiree will be able to shape the specifics of their role. No nonprofit background is required.

Job Title: Development Director

Reports To: CEO

Work Hours: Mon Friday, 8:00 am 5:00 pm with occasional evenings and weekends (typically no more than 6-10 times per month)

Supervisory Responsibility: Fundraising Coordinator and Communications Coordinator

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: $52,000 - $68,000

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive and innovative approach to community engagement and fundraising by sustaining current community relationships and developing new engagement strategies that are in alignment with RBBB's mission, vision and values. Includes established philanthropic and institutional fundraising, as well as exploration into grassroots, peer to peer, and online initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees ongoing design, implementation and analysis of RBBB's engagement strategy and ensures that all fundraising and stewardship efforts are conducted in accordance with RBBB's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Community-Centric Fundraising philosophy
  • Effectively leads and manages Fundraising Coordinator and Communications coordinator to realize strategic objectives of the Development department
  • Deeply understands and fosters strong relationships and partnerships within the RBBB community in order to grow the organization's community-centric support and donor base
  • Collaborates with the Program Director and Operations Director to realize all RBBB strategic priorities
  • Develops a collaborative fundraising culture across the organization
  • Coordinates various fundraising and community outreach initiatives with the Fundraising and Communications Coordinator
  • Monitors and maximizes donor database
  • Remains current on fundraising methods, ethical practices and legislation

REQUIRED SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • Minimum 5 years revenue generation experience in nonprofit, political or other relevant sector
  • Demonstrated experience in setting strategy, developing, managing and implementing revenue generation goals
  • Must be a self-starter who is able to work independently in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Must be goal-oriented, resourceful and flexible and committed to achieving measurable results
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing a successful team
  • Must be able to coordinate and facilitate meetings with diverse populations
  • Ability to conduct themselves in accordance with the Read Better Be Better organization, vision, mission and values
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid AZ driver's license
  • Must be able to travel to various locations in the Greater Phoenix area
  • Must have the ability and willingness to occasionally work evenings and weekends

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Previous exposure to the non-profit sector preferred.
  • Previous experience with grassroots fundraising preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position operates in a professional and entrepreneurial office environment as well as various locations throughout the Greater Phoenix area
  • The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers and filing cabinets
