GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The intent of this description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees on this job. Under the general supervision of the Telecommunications Crew Leader, installs, adjusts, tests and repairs commercial and/or residential telecommunications services for OMU internal and external customers. Equipment may include Passive Optical Networking (PON) devices such as optical splitters, Optical Network Terminals (ONTs), fiber splice enclosures, media converters, routers, switches, patch panels, and other networking devices. Requires both indoor and outdoor working conditions, aerial and underground facilities, including customer premises, substations, data centers environments, and other areas as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Install, test, maintain, and repair commercial and/or residential telecommunications services for OMU internal and external customers.
  2. Assist with the maintenance, repair, and installation of fiber optics distribution lines and equipment as necessary; perform fiber splicing as needed.
  3. Process work orders timely and accurately to ensure proper record keeping.
  4. Perform fiber locates as necessary aka (BUD).
  5. Participate in 24 hour on call rotation.
  6. Operate various OMU vehicles including passenger vehicle, cargo van, and bucket truck.
  7. Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
  8. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
