GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides advising on academic requirements for graduate and post-baccalaureate students seeking admissions to health professional programs, preparing for counseling licensure, or for career opportunities in the healthcare/public health sectors within the guidelines of federal, state and local laws and college, division and office policies and procedures. Reports to the senior director of graduate studies and works with the director of health advising and partnerships as well as faculty, staff and students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Advising:

  1. Advises students on the academic record and experiences necessary to become competitive applicants in their field. Ensures students are knowledgeable of and can access academic and student support services (peer-tutoring, CAPS, etc).
  2. Reviews and evaluates degree audits with students. Advises students on academic policies related to their program of study.
  3. Provides support, strategies and referrals to resources that assist individual students in developing a plan that holistically strengthens and enhances their applicant profile.
  4. Advises students and recent alums as they prepare application materials, including: personal statements, resumes, mock interviews, etc.


Programming:

  1. Provides workshops, group sessions, and other professional development activities for current students.
  2. Supports new student orientation and other programs at the request of the Senior Director of Graduate Studies.
  3. Occasional evening and weekend availability is required to support events.


Administrative:

  1. Maintains accurate records in the designated systems related to admissions, advising, clinical sites and volunteer opportunities, etc. in compliance with FERPA and other campus, federal and state regulations.
  2. Collaborates with campus constituencies to share key information, notifications, etc. and other duties as assigned.
  3. Supports various administrative functions related to student success, such as: the committee letter process, program assessment, etc.

REQUIREMENTS

REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master's Degree required.
Experience: At least 2-3 years experience in academic advising or a related field. Experience working with pre-health, STEM, or pre-professional student populations preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student development theories and familiarity with current advising trends/best practices.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact in a positive, helpful manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and others from a variety of different backgrounds, experiences, personalities and abilities.
  • Demonstrated excellence in planning and organizing work and student records to meet deadlines.
  • Possess excellent time-management skills to successfully and simultaneously complete multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrable proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google electronic mail and knowledge of Starfish and Colleague or similar student database software preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, maintain confidentiality and abide by the Agnes Scott Honor Code

Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and occasional moving of light objects. Work is performed in an office.
