Wilkes University invites applicants for a Director of Residence Life in the area of Student Affairs. The Office of Residence Life's goal is to foster a residential environment supportive of individual student growth and development through programming, training, and the room selection process. The collaboration between students in our residence halls and dedicated University staff helps to create a community in which the students can experience feelings of identity, security, and intellectual stimulation. Residence Life's mission is to encourage student success by creating a quality living environment that provides opportunities for socializing and learning outside the classroom.
The successful candidate provides leadership for a residential program of 1,100 students in 20 facilities. The director oversees two residence life coordinators, one support staff, two graduate assistants, and 40 paraprofessional staff in maintaining health and safety standards for the halls; provides social and educational opportunities based on sound student development principles and theory; maintains acceptable standards of behavior based on University rules and regulations; maintains all records related to residence life; and facilitates all processes related to residence life. The Director is also responsible for strategic planning for Residence Life as it relates to the University's short and long range planning.
A master's degree in a related field and four to six years of administrative experience in the area of residence life is required. The ideal candidate will: understand the role that a residence life program plays in the development of college students; possess an understanding of retention trends and apply that knowledge to planning initiatives; understand issues of due process as well as other legal issues related to student conduct and higher education administration; and have a working knowledge of systems and software related to residential and student life. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
