Job Summary:

Assist the Director of the First Step Program in the supervision and management of department services and programs including the assistance of hiring, training and management of staff, administrative oversight, program expansion, and the promotion of First Step Programs while also providing direct services in area of expertise as needed.

Expected term is 6 months, full-time hours

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide 50-60% direct services in the area of expertise (e.g. Earl Start Intake Assessments, speech language therapy, occupational therapy, and/or educational services)
  • Assist the Director with management of First Step Early Start Intakes and therapeutic/ educational services
  • Assist the Director with strategic planning as appropriate) including the development (exploring other revenue streams-e.g. parent ed. groups, feeding therapy, ABA services) and refinement of First Step programs and goals based upon client need, program designs and Via's mission. Provide input for program development, grant applications, interagency collaborations, volunteer recruitment as required.
  • Assist the Director with overseeing quality of services by providing feedback and support to staff when necessary in the area of manager's expertise.
  • Assist with the process of monitoring staff performance and productivity. Complete performance reviews of staff in area of expertise Assist the Director with plans to improve efficiency and profitability to strengthen program as needed.
  • Complete any required reports and records, delegated by Director, that are necessary or required for the First Step programs.
  • Act as a liaison/ FS representative at SARC intake Staffing as well as with SCCOE, and other related meetings/trainings when assigned
  • Keep informed and inform Director of current educational information, new trends, procedures and other programs through local, county, state and national meetings, workshops and seminars and literature related to early intervention, preschool, and school age trends.
  • Offer diagnostic and therapeutic input in case management team meetings.
  • Participate in and lead educational in-services to program staff to ensure high level of competence and motivation among staff.
  • Attend, and facilitate as needed, staff meetings with Via staff and biweekly First Step department meetings, and assigned interagency meetings.
  • Assist the Director with developing and maintaining a strong working relationship with community partners and other referral sources.

Required Education and Experience:

  • MA/MS in Speech Language Pathology or Occupational Therapy from an accredited university with applicable license, credential and/or certificate
  • At least two years of supervisory experience, or demonstrated ability to manage a program and staff.
  • Reliable motor vehicle transportation, valid California Driver's License and proof of automobile insurance coverage
  • Ability to obtain criminal fingerprint clearance (DOJ/FBI)
  • Proof of negative TB results and documentation of covid-19 vaccinations (or approved ADA/EEOC accommodation)
  • CPR Certification/First Aid Training within thirty (30) days of hire date and prior to expiration thereafter
  • At least 18 years of age
