Via West, provides year-round weekend respite camps, as well as week-long summer camps, for children and adults with a broad range of disabilities. We recently started offering weekend programs again and we are seeking an experienced RN Manager to support the Health Center.

We are open to part-time, full-time, contract or job-share candidates. Some weekend coverage is needed during the school year and week-day hours are very flexible.

The areas of management we need are:

  • Supervise RNs, LVNs and Nurse Interns
  • Provide expertise-related training for nursing staff as well as general camp staff
  • Coordinate with consulting physician to obtain necessary prescriptions and sign-off on policies.
  • Ensure compliance with American Camp Association guidelines for nursing at special needs camp through evidence-based policies, procedures and processes.
  • Manage an effective system for health screening and preparation of medication administration records (MARs) for arriving campers and staff
  • Manage inventory of supplies for the Health Center
  • Oversee health care standards, including record keeping in the health care logs, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved and standing orders
  • Administer pre-employment TB skin tests for staff

Summary of desired Education, Skills and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Minimum ASN is required
  • Current California Registered Nurse license in good standing is required
  • At least three years of professional nursing experience
  • Experience working with children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification
  • Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters.
  • Ability to observe, assess and address sanitation and safety conditions of the camp.
  • Working knowledge of G-Suite for email, document sharing and calendar
  • Ability to become proficient in new systems
  • Ability to document and train others on workflow processes
  • Effective and professional written and oral communication skills
  • Must have reliable motor vehicle transportation, job related mileage is reimbursed

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more).
  • Ability to lift/assist campers and staff.
  • Ability to quickly get to remote locations on camp property over uneven terrain.
  • Possess endurance to meet emergency needs.
  • Ability to drive to off-camp health provider, physician, or emergency treatment locations.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at times.

  • Ability to obtain criminal fingerprint clearance (DOJ/FBI)
  • Proof of negative TB results
  • Proof of current covid-19 vaccination
  • CPR or BLS certification
  • Willingness to work variable hours, including evenings, weekends and select holidays.
  • At least 18 years of age
