This notice is to notify potential candidates of vacancies in the Unified Fire Authority Wildland Division. The Division will be hiring seasonal crewmembers to work from approximately May 1st-November 15th. Unified Fire Authority's Wildland Division has openings for a number of seasonal positions.
General Job information: Fighting wildland fire is extremely demanding both physically and emotionally. Wildland firefighting consists of long and stressful days of arduous work. Crewmembers are expected to participate in all aspects of fire suppression while we are on a fire assignment. These include initial attack, extended attack, fire line construction, hose lay operations, firing operations, and mop-up. When not on a fire assignment the crew participates in daily physical training, fire training, and other project work.
Additionally, the time commitment can be enormous, but the rewards are equally gratifying. Working upwards of 1000 to 1500 hours during the summer can be both satisfying and lucrative. It is important that applicants be able to commit to working these long hours for the duration of the Wildland fire season which typically lasts from late spring to early fall. If you are interested in obtaining a position on one of these crews you need to be a team player, self-motivated, self-disciplined, and a hard worker.
We will be accepting applications starting November 16, 2020 and we will close the job announcement December 31, 2020. When your application is processed you will receive an email outlining the rest of the hiring process.
Interviews are anticipated to be held on January 24th and 25th , 2021 and most likely will be conducted via Zoom. Applicants will be asked to participate in a 1.5 mile run. This year, we will not be requiring the run to be completed in a set time, but it is in your best interest to do well during the run. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, candidates most likely will be asked to submit a certified timed run instead of participating in person. More details will be released about the run as it gets closer and Covid-19 restrictions can be addressed.
Minimum Requirements: Be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate, possess a current and valid driver's license and pass the NWCG pack test (entails walking three miles on level ground, with a 45lbs pack, within forty- five minutes).
