Come join one of the most exciting, dynamic organizations in the non-profit and technology worlds as the Counsel of Policy, where you will be the subject matter expert to ESA, its members, and its outside consultants on intellectual property (IP) matters.

The Counsel, Policy will help shape the industry's policy and advocacy strategy on copyright law and other legal and policy matters that impact the creative and innovative video game industry. As a member of ESA's Legal team, the Counsel, Policy identifies, monitors, and analyzes legislation, regulations, and proposals at the state and federal level on intellectual property and other areas that are relevant to the industry to prepare summaries, analyses, policy papers, and materials for the broader ESA team and its members. The Counsel coordinates across the legal team members, the Intellectual Property Protection and Security (IPPS) team, Government Affairs and Communication and Public Affairs teams to ensure alignment on intellectual property and other assigned priorities, advocacy, and messaging.

Qualified applicants have a law degree from an ABA accredited institution and a minimum of three years of relevant experience working on intellectual property law and policy issues, including copyright, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. Familiarity with digital policy issues, such as online safety, content moderation, and/or artificial intelligence is strongly preferred in this role. We are seeking collaborative individuals with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to network with government and other external contacts. Additionally, you are skilled in communicating complex legal and policy issues and craft concise written messaging for a variety of audiences, including the ESA team, member companies, and industry and government stakeholders. Knowledge of the video game industry is a plus for this role. Some travel may be required.
