Thanksgiving Point is looking for a Horticulture Supervisor to oversee the ground maintenance of 25 acres to include three wedding venues, (Hidden Falls, Loggia Rose Garden, and The Grapevine Arbor) Harvest Restaurant & Deli, The Museum of Ancient Life, Electric Park, Brick Canvas, The Show Barn, Butterfly Biosphere, and Farm Country.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise, train and work with 3-6 gardeners maintaining flower beds, tree and shrub areas, parking lot beds and ensure that gardening tasks are performed correctly.
  • Carry out assignments and coordinate special projects as directed by the Horticulture Manager
  • Daily pickup of garbage and empty garbage cans as needed.
  • Walk through garden areas daily, monitor watering needs, broken sprinklers, safety hazards, insect or disease infestations etc. and report to the Horticulture Manager
  • Remove and install seasonal flowers.
  • Work with Wedding Coordinators in preparation of garden areas for weddings.
  • Water and maintain floral containers.
  • Keep shop and tool area organized and inventory tools daily.
  • Operate gas powered equipment, blowers, hedge trimmers, pressure washers, etc.
  • Aid in the application of common pesticides
  • Interact with guests in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Holiday light installation and removal
  • Snow removal
  • Maintain indoor plants inside Butterfly Biosphere

 

Shift hours and days:  Monday Friday and some Saturdays 6:00am 2:30pm, 7:30am 4:00pm adjusted seasonally

Skill requirements:  Must be willing to work in all types of weather conditions.  Candidate must possess leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively, resolving employee issues and concerns in a professional manner.  Must be able to lift heavy containers, work on ladders and lifts, recognize watering needs, and identify plant problems. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture, related field or equivalent experience preferred
  • 1-2 years of Supervisory experience preferred
