JOB TITLE: Operations Manager


REPORTS TO: Chair and Director of Operations -- BFA Fine Arts


In charge of all-encompassing factors related to the physical and operational needs of the BFA Fine Arts department at 335 W 16th Street: oversee all art studio and seminar classrooms and all 4th-year studios in an efficient, safe, and functional manner.


  • Research, development, and management of Fine Arts resources.
  • Oversee the management, inventory, and technical needs for Fine Arts studio art courses and classrooms.
  • Provide administrative support to undergraduate, graduate, continuing education, SVA artist residents, and special programs in Fine Arts.
  • Oversee upkeep of all Fine Arts facilities including 4th-year studios, installation spaces, studio art classrooms, storage racks/cabinets, BFA FA lockers, and seminar rooms.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Health and Environmental Safety in keeping updated MSD sheets for materials used in the entire facility.
  • Research and development of technologies and equipment for more efficient and improved departmental operations.
  • Oversee safety technical training and safety documents and supplies for all classrooms located at 335 W 16th
  • Oversee building preparations for exhibitions and public events.
  • Onsite installation aid for all Fine Art's exhibitions and events.
  • Oversee all ordering and inventory handling for studio art classrooms, washrooms, and operational needs.
  • Manage Operation's supply and storage closets and pedestal closet, painting, and drawing props, shared art storage, flat files, furniture, and lockers.
  • Coordinate end of semester resolution and restoration of studios, classrooms, storage areas, lockers, and furniture relocations, etc.
  • Liaison between Chair and Installation Room and Open Studio proposals from Fine Art students.
  • Manage student worker staff of 4-6 students.
  • Operation's liaison to the registrar, facilities, and BFA FA faculty at W 21st Street buildings


  • MFA a plus.
  • Administrative proficiency -- specifically staff management and organizational skills.
  • Experience in fine art installation, handling, and moving.
  • Able to work in a Fine Arts context with students, instructors, and staff in a friendly and creative manner.
  • Must work well with others in a professional manner that effectively and efficiently relays pertinent information.
  • Verbal acuity and writing skills.
  • Must be well versed in studio practices ranging from painting, drawing, digital media, and sculpture. Prior teaching experiences a plus.
