Summary:

This position will manage the increasingly complex US and Canadian tax functions of the company. Primary responsibilities include preparation of: US federal and state income and sales tax returns, Canadian federal and provincial income and indirect tax returns, US and Canadian tax provisions, ensuring compliance with tax SOX control, managing tax audits, transfer pricing reports and reporting, and assist with tax planning and projections. Other areas of responsibility include property tax assistance, Canadian SRED, CAPEX analysis to maximize CCA, foreign affiliate analysis US and Canadian interest deductibility, repatriation planning (including US Earnings and Profits and Canadian PUC), and Tax Treaty analysis. This position will also require coordination with internal finance and accounting team, as well as liaising with internal and external financial statement and tax auditors.This position will manage the increasingly complex US and Canadian tax functions of the company. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Includes the following; other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Preparation of Canadian federal and provincial income tax and foreign reporting filings
  • Preparation of Canadian HST, QST filings
  • Preparation of US federal, state, and city income tax compliance
  • Preparation of multiple US state sales tax returns and administration
  • Preparation of US and Canadian monthly, quarterly, annual tax provisions,
  • Initial contact with external tax consultants and auditors in the tax area, including tax provision and tax return review
  • Preparation of US and Canadian interest deductibility, tax projections, PUC and E&P calculations
  • Work with accounting and finance team in preparing tax projections for budgeting and strategic planning
  • Analyze Capex spending for tax depreciation (US bonus depreciation and Canadian CCA) and assist with external SRED consultants
  • Management of cross-border transactions and transfer pricing methodology and reporting, including with external review of transfer pricing.
  • Initial contact on tax audits and preparing defense
  • Assist with US property tax management.
  • Assist with US and Canadian tax research and analysis.
  • Assist with tax review and analysis of sales or purchases of assets or other special transactions.
  • Managing tax SOX control
  • Liaise with other Business Units and Finance team to provide tax assistance as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Accounting and CPA designation are required.
  • Masters in Taxation/Accounting, CICA In-depth, and international tax experience.
  • Strong self-initiative, interpersonal, and time management skills (competing deadlines and projects) are required.
  • Strong tax technical, analytical and critical thinking skills are required.
  • 5-10 years of experience in Canadian and US tax compliance and consulting experience required, preferably in public practice
  • Strong excel and MS Office proficiency is required.
  • Knowledge of SAP and IFRS is preferred.
  • Fluent in French and English is a must
