Delivery Driver

General Description/Purpose:

It is required to possess a valid commercial class B CDL driver's license. The Local Driver will provide a high level of service to ensure employee, customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The Local Driver does this by operating a commercial truck with a gross vehicle weight rating of 18000 lbs. or greater. The Local Driver delivers furniture to our retail customer's homes and/or businesses and will carry the furniture into buildings with the assistance of another driver or a driver's helper. The Local Driver does these functions in the support of the Distribution of Stickley Furniture.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Delivers furniture to our retail customer's homes and/or businesses and will carry the furniture into buildings with the assistance of another driver or a driver's helper
  2. Responsible for the safe operation of any vehicle that is driven
  3. Responsible for reviewing and adhering to the driver code of conduct as established by Stickley
  4. Responsible for ensuring compliance will all federal motor carrier safety regulations, state and federal department of transportation regulations, OSHA, and other applicable state and federal laws .Specifically including but not limited to regulations surrounding hours of service, driver logs, driver vehicle condition reports
  5. Responsible for reviewing and planning the deliveries on loads they are assigned to deliver
  6. Reviews the paper work for the load and get an understanding of the geographic route for the load
  7. Review how the furniture is loaded on the truck before departing to ensure the furniture is loaded and secured properly
  8. At the point of delivery, the driver is responsible for interacting with the customer in presenting the delivery documents and collecting any unpaid balances
  9. Walks through the delivery site and plans a safe and efficient way to move the furniture into and through the building and to the placement of the product
  10. After the delivery secures a signature from the customer that indicates what was delivered and notes any exceptions and/or damages to the furniture or the customer's property
  11. Utilizes various devices such as carts, dollies, hand trucks, straps, etc. to aid in the delivery process
  12. Communicates as needed with customer service representatives and the transportation coordinator

Essential Knowledge, Skills:

  1. Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and knowledge of weights and measure, utilize measuring tools such as tape measures and other measuring devices to sufficiently handle job tasks
  2. Understand and respond appropriately to basic customer and employee inquiries
  3. Read, write and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions (Other preferences will be given for special language skills when there is a business need)
  4. Knowledge of company's goals and your role in achieving each of them
  5. Maintains a valid class D driver's license and have the ability to safely operate a straight truck with a gross vehicle weight of 18,000 pounds or greater, and be able to properly secure cargo using blankets, straps, rubber bands, load bars, etc.
  6. Operate facility equipment as required in assigned area (including but not limited to RF Scanner, telephone, cutting equipment, hand tools, computers, copiers, fax machines, pallet jacks, etc.)
  7. Satisfactorily complete all Stickley training requirements (including but not limited to departmental training, annual Hazardous Material and environmental training, etc.)
  8. Ability to interpret company documents and literature and general UPC information as related to job function

Performance Standards:

  1. Responsible for reporting to work at scheduled times and communicating tardiness and absences with the assigned Supervisor/Manager prior to the occurrence
  2. Responsible for reporting to work in a condition to work
  3. Responsible for being well-groomed and dressed in a business-and position-appropriate attire at all times
  4. Comply with performance criteria, standards of conduct as contained in company policy, employment procedures and responsibilities as described in the core handbook
  5. Maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct a safety concern
  6. Responsible for completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as assigned

Work Schedule:

  1. Requires morning, afternoon and overnight availability any day of the week
  2. Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by Supervisor/Manager
  3. Hourly: Generally scheduled for 40 hours a week for FT Status and 10-30 hours a week for PT status; more hours may be required based on the needs of the business
