Institutional Review Board Administrator works independently, administers, implements and manages all Institutional Review Board (IRB) business, including policies and procedures related to the protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects and the institution's compliance with all federal, state and local regulations, policies and guidelines applicable to research.

This includes:

  • Overseeing the Administrative Operations, Policies & Procedures of the CPHSR.
  • Providing information on technical and ethical requirements for conducting research involving human subjects to faculty, staff, students and SPUH affiliated institutions.
  • Committee meeting support responsibilities i.e. coordinating IRB meeting plans, including securing meeting location, date and time, and teleconferencing needs.
  • Maintaining Federal regulation compliance and CPHSR database.


  • Analytical skills and knowledge to comprehend and interpret complex governmental regulations and guidelines as usually acquired upon completion of Bachelor's Degree in a health care or related field.
  • One year prior experience in any combination of the following areas: IRB administration, grant and contract administration, clinical and/or laboratory research, which should include working knowledge of 45 CFR part 46 as per OHRP regulations as well as 21 CFR part 56 as per FDA regulations; and possession of an in-depth understanding of operational requirements pertaining to the management and implementation of protocol review processes.
  • Successful completion of the Certified IRB Professional (CIP) exam is required within 2 years of service.
  • Able to take initiative and be self-motivated; outstanding organizational skills are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
