Position Purpose

The Network Engineer is responsible for multitasking daily support and project-focused initiatives involving the local and wide area networks. This includes being adept at tackling issues head-on, taking ownership through issue/project inception through to completion with minimal direction. Provide leadership and mentor team of Help Desk agents and system admins, working side-by-side with them daily. This position applies a great deal of on-the-spot critical thinking in a fast-paced environment supporting over 60 locations across the United States and Canada. Solid task management and communication skills are a must to inspire and motivate the team into action. Must be able to communicate tasks and project progress regularly without being reminded to do so.

Essential Functions

  • Manage complex networks working with core technologies, optimizing infrastructure and keep applications secure and performing efficiently
  • Implementing and testing disaster recovery procedures
  • Configuring various types of load balancers and installing certificates
  • Managing domains
  • Lead network architecture partner on enterprise design and implementation
  • Work with network managed service provider (MSP) for adds, changes, deletes
  • Network monitoring
  • Configuring switches, firewalls and wireless devices, primarily traditional Cisco and Cisco Meraki SD-WAN architecture
  • Circuit provisioning and implementation
  • Transport security review, filtering, whitelisting, remediation, scoping
  • Medium to heavy project management, consistent follow through on assigned daily and weekly tasks
  • Conduct working sessions, meetings and phone calls necessary achieve project goals
  • Collaborate with multiple teams to define strategy, implementation and resolution
  • Translate processes into diagrams and charts that clearly articulate missions and architecture
  • Manage information upwards, downwards and sideways daily as needed
  • Accept the challenge to learn new things through varying assignments that may not be exactly in your experience and career path
  • Maintaining and enforce departmental processes, including:
    • Requirements definition
    • Regularly occurring team and project meetings
    • Expanding our knowledge base
    • Regularly occurring project and department status reporting
    • Change Management (ITSM)
    • Incident Management (ITSM)

Work Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years' work experience in in mid- to large-size enterprise Information Technology roles
  • BA in Computer Sciences or Information Systems and/or equivalent formal training and technical work experience is preferred
  • CCNP certification for network routing and switching, scaling and support is required
  • Firm understanding of client-server architectures, network principles, including but not limited to VPN, DNS, DHCP and BGP
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Visio is required
  • Familiarity with VoIP architecture, specifically Cisco Call Manager and Finesse
  • Overseeing network security and remediation including proven experience with managing and updating firewalls and ACLs
  • Evaluating and executing network changes not limited to firmware and route changes; working with vendors on complex changes
  • Troubleshooting and resolving local and wide area network issues; works collaboratively with network vendors and internal teams
  • SaaS, IaaS integration provisioning and implementation
  • Familiarity with systems monitoring tools such as Pingdom and SolarWinds
  • SaaS and IaaS service awareness including Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, Teams, OneDrive, Zendesk or others
  • Experience working a list of tickets and using good judgement to prioritize resolutions based on most urgent business needs.
  • Experience working in virtualized data centers that utilize physical servers and virtual hosts utilizing VMWare technologies
  • Familiarity with storage solutions, including but not limited to Nimble, Tegile/TinTri, and other NAS, SAN technologies
  • Troubleshooting and resolving local and wide area network issues; works collaboratively with systems vendors and internal teams
  • Firm understanding of Microsoft Windows Server platforms, and awareness of others including Linux, Apache, SUSE, etc.
  • Keeping abreast of firmware releases, critical updates for infrastructure
  • Installing and implementing security programs, updating security certificates
  • IBM AIX and AS400 platform awareness a plus
  • Ability to get things done with limited supervision
