POSITION SUMMARY
Our medical facility is currently searching for an experienced and friendly medical records clerk to join our team. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks including collecting patient information, issuing medical files, filing medical records, and processing patient admissions and discharge papers.
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of medical terminology, processes, and administrative duties. To excel in this position, you should also demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required: Ability to read, write and communicate clearly in English; organizational skills; ability to appropriately handle disgruntled patients; ability to work under stressful conditions; ability to prioritize and multitask; ability to work with limited supervision; proficient in common computer applications, previous knowledge using EHR helpful.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preparing and gathering information and documents from patients
- Ensuring that the medical records are organized, accurate and complete.
- Creating digital copies of paperwork and storing the records electronically
- Filing the paperwork and reports of inpatients quickly and accurately
- Safeguarding patient records and ensuring that everyone complies with the HIPAA standards.
- Transferring data into the facility's main system database
- Processing the records for patients
- Taking payments and providing receipts
- Issue medical files to persons and agencies according to laws and regulations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time on a daily basis.
- Physical requirements for this position include hearing, seeing, speaking, feeling, talking, reaching, pinching and repetitive motions.
- Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and written instruction or other information.
- Ability to plan, organize, and carry out assignments from management staff with minimal direction.
- Ability to organize and prioritize job duties in an effective and timely manner, set priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Ability to maintain accurate files and records.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals via telephone or face to face encounters.
- Proficient in practice and information management programs
- Strong organizational and office technology skills
- Knowledge of HIPPA and client confidentiality laws
