Muskegon Area District Library in Muskegon, MI is seeking to hire a part-time (24 hours/week) Delivery / Bookmobile Support Person. The Muskegon Area District Library (MADL) is a public library system with 10 locations throughout the county. We are recognized as a primary resource for literacy and learning; a gathering place for families, cultural, and civic life; and a contributor to the community's economic development. We exist to connect diverse communities to resources and services that educate, inform, enrich, and entertain.

The MADL Bookmobile travels throughout Muskegon County and provides full library services and programs to those who may not have a library branch nearby and to those with mobility and transportation issues. Our 36-foot custom-designed mobile library service is equipped with computer stations, a collection of high-demand books and materials, Wi-Fi, a printing and charging station, a TV and PA system, a liftgate, and a retractable awning.

As a Delivery / Bookmobile Support Person, you enjoy driving your route and delivering library materials to branches all over the county. Always keeping things organized, you sort, load, and unload materials on a large vehicle. You circulate these materials and are sure to include requests you have gotten from patrons. You provide reader assistance and database services to patrons. You register borrower cards and inform new cardholders of basic benefits and services.

You love interacting with people and are able to make personal connections easily and ensure that every patron feels welcome. Taking charge of challenging opportunities as they arise, you are sure to provide excellent customer service. Your positive, friendly disposition comes through in all your interactions and is one of the reasons our patrons enjoy coming to our bookmobile. Each day, you love being surrounded by books, interacting with people, and being outside of the office and on the road for work.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Michigan driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Chauffeur's license or ability to get one upon hire
  • Experience driving large vehicles
  • Comfortable driving in all types of weather conditions and various times in the day
  • Physical ability to transport/move objects up to 50 lbs
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of library software and Microsoft Office products
