PURPOSE OF POSTION:
To become familiar with and trained in basic line work practices; construction, operations, and maintenance work and to assure adherence to safety requirements.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Includes but not limited to these duties:
- assist with installs and connect transformers and meters
- assist in voltage recordings and load surveys
- assist with installation and maintenance of street lighting and associated equipment
- to become familiar with procedures to respond to service calls; restore power outages and problems including stand-by duties for power restoration and associated problems during and after normal working hours, holidays and weekends
- install and service of guys on ground, and framing of poles in accordance with REA specifications
- comply with all of the Cooperative's safety rules and use safe working practices and methods
- acquire a thorough working knowledge of first aid and pole top rescue
- acquire a working knowledge of all substation switching operations, system apparatus and devices
- acquire a working knowledge of CCEC and RUS specifications, the National Electric Safety Code and CCEC mapping system and staking sheets
- becomes acquainted with the preparation of appropriate records such as material tickets, charge outs, timesheets and other reports as necessary
- maintain a working knowledge of the Cooperative policies and procedures
- attend applicable safety meetings and other special training sessions as requested
- comply with proper operating practices in the use of the two-way radio
- ensure that cooperative tools/equipment/material are properly maintained and stored securely
- promote and present a positive professional image when performing duties
- other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
- high school diploma or GED equivalency and certificate from accredited electrical lineworker program required
- valid driver's license and commercial driver's license permit required
EXPERIENCE:
- related work experience required; additional experience in electric utility system operations preferred
- opportunity to earn Department of Labor approved "journeyman" status with completion of certified program (books/tuition paid by the cooperative)
ABILITIES/SKILLS:
- lifting 50-lbs. Maximum with frequent lifting and /or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing
- possible after-hours service calls with proper supervision to restore power outages and issues
- possibility of working continuous and lengthy hours with minimal rest
- good oral and written communication skills
- excellent organizational skills
- experience using computers and computer software
WORKING CONDITION:
- Outside work
- Hazards: Situations in which the individual is exposed to the definite risk of bodily injury
- overtime may be required
WORK SCHEDULE:
- construction season, generally May through November
- estimated hours worked - 1300 to 1450 hours per year
SALARY:
- progressive wage scale
- dependent upon background, qualified hours worked, experience and Northwest Lineman's Apprenticeship program certificate
