A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SOFTWARE SYSTEM ENGINEER

As a software system engineer supporting a dynamic army aviation Project Office, you are a highly motivated, self-starter, customer-facing support contractor with the ability to multitask seamless. You have excellent program management skills including organizational and communication across differing career and personality types. Skills with managing aircraft systems software, Army Acquisition, and aircraft sensors which allows you to solve the hard problems and answer the tough questions.

You serve as a Program Software Lead coordinating, planning, and managing the software aspects for the aircraft program meeting the scope, cost, and schedule that are required. You provide the key software technical expertise for software documentation review (DO-178C documentations set), analysis of contractor's metrics, schedules, and cost estimates. You effectively review and adjudicate software documents with SRD and S3I. Identifying and tracking of software risk for the program, then formulate and implement the risk mitigation plans. Writing and reviewing of statement of works and proposals, performing technical evaluations of contractor proposals and participating in supporting contractual activities allows you to be intricate in the foundation of requirement implementation and compliance. Generating metrics and measurement techniques provide program office leadership with the timely and accurate information necessary on your project's status. Reviewing and approving the contractor's metrics allow you to determine how the program is progressing in accordance with the scope of the program. By proper planning and coordination, you ensure that there is proper program Stage of Involvement (SOIs) with necessary stakeholders.

Additional assistance is also provided in coordination of cybersecurity testing events with other government agencies such as Cybersecurity Vulnerability Investigations (CVI), Cybersecurity Vulnerability Penetration Assessments (CVPA), Adversarial Assessments (AA), and development of cybersecurity program documentation such as the Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP), Information Security Plan (ISP), Program Protection Plan (PPP) and Configuration Management Plan (CMP).

You provide the leadership, experience, and continuity that is needed to allow for successful program acquisition execution within the high pace field of sensors software engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SOFTWARE SYSTEM ENGINEER

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in a software engineering or related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional work experience required with 10 years of test-related duties are preferred
  • Have experience working with Systems Simulation, Software, and Integration (S3I) and System Readiness Directorate (SRD)
  • Have a working knowledge of MOSA, DO-178, DO-254, Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE), development and traceability, and software architectures
  • Possess general knowledge of Aviation Platforms and familiarity of MBSE
