The Scale Clerk operates a weigh scale for the scrapyard, weighing customers in and out. The Scale Clerk also pays out customers for various metals that are brought into the yard. The starting pay for this position is $18.00 per hour.

  • Accurately inspect all materials ensuring correct weights, materials description, and grade for all inbound and outbound loads
  • Determine the grade of material and enter it into the inventory system
  • Assist in the sorting and processing of materials
  • Assist in loading and unloading of vehicles
  • Ensure accurate documentation of scale transactions
  • Communicate material discrepancies with Operations Managers
  • Communicate and assist yard staff as necessary
  • Follow detailed specifications on outbound loads
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental standards
  • Keep a clean and organized work area
  • Attend and participate in internal meetings and complete required training
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management


  • Basic math, account reconciliation, computer, and data entry skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with customers
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
  • Basic computer knowledge for work-related purposes


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years cash handling and direct customer service experience in a fast-paced environment


  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Frequently climb up and down ladders; crouch and bend at the knee; stoop or bend at the waist; reach arms overhead, and twist and turn at the neck and trunk
  • Continually handle and grasp levers and dials; continuous leg and foot motion when using pedals
  • The work environment involves frequent and/or regular exposure to natural and unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises
