The City of Hapeville is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter Paramedic or Paramedic. This is a highly responsible position that responds to emergency calls for fire suppression, medical assistance, hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle accidents, natural disasters, explosions, bomb threats, downed power lines, and other emergency situations; responds to instructions from dispatchers. Responds to medical calls providing first aid, artificial respiration, and/or basic, intermediate, and advanced life support treatment to patients as well as transportation to appropriate medical facilities; assesses the conditions of patients; determines nature or extent of illness/injury; makes decisions regarding proper courses of action; administers initial treatment at emergency scenes, such as CPR, cardiac monitoring, medication an calculation and administration, immobilization of body, wound treatment, control of bleeding, monitoring and relaying of vital signs, oxygen and IV therapy administration, sterile suctioning, intubation, defibrillation, ECG monitoring and the management of cardiac arrest and severe trauma patients; performs extrication of victims from wreckage, as necessary; maintains radio communications with dispatch center, hospital personnel, and other public safety agencies to receive and to transmit instructions involving patient care; performs physical lifting techniques associated with moving patients between incident site, stretcher or ambulance; maintains all treatment-related documentation. Performs other related duties as required.
Annual Starting Rate - $54,134
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responds to emergency calls for fire suppression.
- Responds to medical calls and transport.
- Responds to Hazardous material incidents.
- Operates, drive, utilizes and/or maintains various firefighting and medical equipment
- Operate a personal computer or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
- Makes periodic public presentations.
- Fire safety training develops, plans and participates in Fire prevention/safety
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent. State of Georgia Basic Firefighter Certification or completion within one (1) year. (Department provides training). Must be a Paramedic in the State of Georgia. Must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
