JOB DESCRIPTION

Positions Classification: FLSA Non-Exempt, Hourly Employee

Job Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for the daily preparation and execution of food items on the line, stations, or other areas of the kitchen with established recipes and techniques. Maintain high standards of appearance and hygiene that include clean clothes, nails, and hair and no heavy perfumes/colognes. Cooks are to set up their station according to guidelines and prepare all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner. Cooks must follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as directed by a supervisor and restock all items as needed throughout their shift. Cleans and maintains their station while practicing good safety, sanitation, organizational skills. Assists with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all storage areas.

This position is required to report to their shift on time, using the time clock to check in and out. Manage your time including taking meal breaks in compliance with New York Labor Law, keeping management informed when leaving your station.

  • Previous prep and/or line cook experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Understanding and ability to comply with safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures
  • Knowledge of all dishes or tasks on their station, ability to cook and produce recipes as instructed, firm understanding of all ingredients necessary
  • Ability to use all relevant equipment
  • Ability to prioritize work activities, provide accurate information and assistance to any management request in a timely manner
  • Ability to keep calm when faced with any unusual situations
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job
  • Comply and perform other duties assigned by supervisor

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time (8-12 hours)
  • Ability to move, pull, push, carry, or lift up to 40 lbs on occasion, and 30 lbs regularly
  • Ability to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hand regularly and in frequent or repetitive motion
  • Ability to reach items at varying heights
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch, and climb as required
  • Ability to work in conditions of environmental exposure to cold, heat, and water
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment

Other Requirements:

  • CA Food Handlers Certification - Food Handling & Sanitation Awareness
  • Must understand how to abide rules of the Department of Health related to Food Service
  • Must understand and maintain sanitation protocols regarding COVID-19 safety
