The Bulletin is seeking an experienced government reporter with a demonstrated ability to deliver high-impact, relevant stories. This person will cover government and associated issues in Bend, Oregon's largest city east of the Cascades, and Deschutes County. This area is replete with important and dynamic issues for an enthusiastic reporter to dig into, including population growth, land use and development, homelessness and the inevitable political tension of a growing city.

The ideal candidate will be a watchdog reporter who continually seeks out the issues that are critical to our readership. This person will write news that goes beyond city council meetings and press releases, analyzing what local government actions actually mean for readers.

Research ability and experience working with public document databases and filing public records requests is required. Knowledge of city and county government practices and procedures is preferred. Degree in journalism or related field, or 3+ years experience, preferred.

Ideally this person will have experience using social media and multimedia components to complement their stories. We're looking for someone who can engage with readers.
