The Observer, headquartered in La Grande, Oregon, has an immediate opening for a full-time, regional reporter who can find sharp, engaging stories, that we'll display prominently throughout EO Media Group's six eastside papers and websites.
This position will work to produce compelling content for EO Media Group's eastside papers. From agriculture, wind and water to wolves and the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, this position will write stories for use in papers in La Grande, Pendleton, Baker City, Enterprise, Hermiston and John Day. This position will have its finger on the pulse of common topics important to all of these communities.
We value news judgement, accurate and timely reporting, creativity, and the ability to tell a story in both words and image. You must be able to meet deadlines, turn around story assignments, edit still and/or video images for your stories, and write accurate and informative photo cutlines.
You must be willing to work a flexible schedule which can often include nights and weekends. Experienced candidates preferred, though willing to work with a recent college graduate. In addition, reliable transportation with a valid in-state driver's license and good driving record are required.
The position is based in La Grande, home of Eastern Oregon University and a short 2-1/2 hours from Boise, Idaho. The community has deep agricultural roots and a growing arts community. The location offers year-round recreational opportunities, including backpacking, camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, horseback riding and mountain biking.
Travel to other EO Media Group properties is a must. Full time at 37.5 hours per week.
