The Family Advocate is responsible for assisting Early Head Start families in problem solving, setting, and accomplishing family and individual goals through direct service, resources, and referrals.


  • Responsible for recruitment, selection, and enrollment following ERSEA (Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance)
  • Provide support through home visits to families of infants and toddlers.
  • Coordinate implementation of volunteer opportunities and document accordingly.
  • Advocate for, work with, and help strengthen low-income families by assisting in setting goals, building on strengths, and developing a plan to address and support areas of concern. Family caseload will be approximately up to 40 families.
  • Promote family partnerships through parent involvement and education activities.
  • Maintain up to date resource library with social-emotional, mental health, and life skill materials and networks with other community agencies to keep information on family support resources.
  • Make referrals and help families identify and access needed resources: health, mental health, social services, education, and training.
  • Facilitate or organize Parent Committee Meetings for families.
  • Knowledge of community resources and linkages to locate and access resources.
  • Work cooperatively with groups of parents, supporting agencies, staff members and community.
  • Conduct client interviews and complete necessary paperwork accurately and in a timely fashion for maintaining eligibility, transferring childcare providers, and terminating services.
  • Responds to requests for information from clients/providers, including provider inquiries regarding program payment guidelines and regulations in a timely manner and within the client confidentiality guidelines.
  • Maintain current and accurate information in the designated database.
  • Review files monthly for accuracy, completeness, and any other requirements of funding sources.
  • Attends all meetings/in-service trainings, as requested, or required, in a punctual professional and contributory manner.
  • Organize data for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials in a timely and comprehensive manner as required.
  • Communicate in a courteous and respectful manner to provide quality customer service and ensure a positive relationship in interactions with providers, parents, and all employees.
  • Interact as part of a team by exhibiting dependability, cooperation, initiative, and punctuality.
  • Assist with all special assignments, research, and report preparation. Participates in the organization of special activities related to childcare programs.
  • Receive and notify supervisor of complaints.
  • Adhere to all Coalition personnel policies and procedures.
  • May serve as a presenter on ELCPBC social media and/or internet based platforms such as but not limited to Facebook, YouTube, Instagram.
  • Perform other duties that may be necessary to maintain the success of the organization, as determined by management.


  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, Family Services, Sociology, or a related field is required.
  • Two years of case work and related experience and/or training is preferred.
  • Experience in Head Start/Early Head Start programs is preferred.
  • Experience providing services to culturally diverse communities/families.
  • Must be social media savvy, with ability to be on ELCPBC social media communicating services and mission.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write and speak in English and Spanish or Creole proficiently, is preferred.

  • This position requires successful completion of the level 2 background screening standards as set forth in 435.04, F.S. and drug screening as the Coalition is a drug-free workplace.
  • Valid Florida driver's license is required, a good driving record and automobile insurance, as required by the Early Learning Coalition driver safety policy.
  • Daily attendance on time and as scheduled is required with the ability to work nights and weekend hours when required.


This position may require 50% or more travel in Palm Beach County to Palm Beach County offices or other locations for meetings, trainings and other required duties. Position requires county-wide travel on a regular/frequent basis as it is community based with services being provided directly in local communities and/or in individual's homes.
