POSITION SUMMARY: The CIT Crisis Case Manager of Emergency Mental Health Response Services is responsible for providing crisis-case-management services to individuals with mental illness that have frequent interactions with law enforcement and have difficulty remaining stable in the community. The CIT Crisis Case Manager will maintain productive relationships with agency management, program staff, volunteers, and union officials. The CIT Crisis Case Manager will work collaboratively with law enforcement departments in Erie County, CIT Officers, mental health agencies, substance abuse agencies, and veteran's agencies, as well as clients and family members.


Essential Functions of the Position Include, But Are Not Limited to:


  • Provides information and referral to individuals that interface with CIT officers.
  • Assists CIT officers in field with follow-up visits.
  • Works to create community crisis plans for clients at risk in community.
  • Attends CIT meetings at police departments, as needed.
  • Provides court advocacy to clients involved in court.
  • Provides support and crisis intervention to families of those with mental illness.
  • Completes all required charting, casework, documentation, and computer entry, on a timely basis.
  • Attends and participate in all required training, staff meetings, and case conferences, as indicated by the Program Supervisor, Supervising Counselor and/or Program Director.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the mental health and human service system in Erie County in order to provide appropriate referral and linkage for clients served.
  • Assists in providing coverage in other agency programs in emergency situations or staff shortage situations as required by agency managers.
  • Maintains a valid NYS driver's license and have access to a usable vehicle.
  • Works in partnership with CIT Peer Crisis Case Manager, delivering services using the evidence-based Mission-VET model.
  • Obtains training in the administration of Narcan/Naloxone and administer in an emergency situation.
  • Provides on-call coverage for Mobile Outreach.

Position Qualifications:


  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or other human service related field.
  • EXPERIENCE: One year of supervised experience (pre- or post-graduate) providing services in a mental health, substance abuse, or human service setting.
  • SKILLS:
    • Demonstrated ability and experience working with diverse populations.
    • Strong knowledge of mental health and suicide dynamics and effects.
    • Experience with the criminal justice field and/or veterans preferred.
    • Knowledge and oversight of organizational policy, procedure and union contract responsibilities.
    • Understanding of organizational relational dynamics as it relates to labor and management relationship.
    • Adaptive leadership style to foster positive working relationships with all levels of employees.
    • Superior knowledge of HIPAA laws/regulations with regard to protected health information; code of ethics, confidentiality and privacy principles.
    • Excellent problem solving, conflict management, organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to multi-task.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
