Code provides reading and decoding of all open barcode symbologies. In addition, Code also offers its proprietary GoCode symbology for secured data applications. Code's worldwide headquarters are in Salt Lake City, USA, and has offices in Acton, MA, and the Netherlands.

Our engineering teams are building the next generation of barcode readers both hardware and software which allows our clients to create better employee and customer experiences. As an Optical Engineer at Code, you will participate in and oversee projects to achieve innovative solutions for users. The Optical Engineer will meet with a cross functional team and management; and also, be responsible for estimating efforts and defining project deliverables. The Optical Engineer needs to have experience with digital imaging and aspherical lens design. Designing and integrating technology in an agile environment to withstand hyper growth and owning quality from end to end is a rewarding challenge and one of the reasons Code is such an exciting place to work!


  • Proficient in optics design tools such as Zemax and Tracepro
  • Ability to take on projects from concept to mass production
  • Design imaging, projection, and illumination optical components
  • Specify electrical components associated with imaging, projection, and illumination designs and work with electrical engineering to integrate designs into products
  • Work with mechanical engineering to integrate designs into products
  • Work with manufacturing to define assembly and test procedures
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in generating, compiling and controlling product documentation, drawings, and technical data sheets
  • Define and carry out testing procedures
  • Ability to think "out of the box" in all facets of the product development process
  • Prioritize assigned projects and tasks for on-time completion
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with handheld electronic products preferred
  • Experience working with Asian vendors preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
  • Desire to contribute and make a difference in a fast-paced work environment
  • Easy to work with, self-motivated and a desire to continuously improve


  • Graduate Level Degree related to Optics or equivalent experience
  • 5+ Years' Experience
