A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WATER PLANT OPERATOR I

As a Water Plant Operator I, you spend your day operating and maintaining essential equipment, troubleshooting issues, taking water samples and tests, ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the building and grounds at the Water Plant. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. When you are not out in the city, you generally participate in aiding knowledge of water treatment operations, lab operations, water sampling and recoding of results. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A WATER PLANT OPERATOR I

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalency
    • Community college, vocational business, technical, or correspondence school certificates are likely sources.
  • No experience required
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
    • Preferred Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Achieve TCEQ Class "D" Surface Water License within first (1) year of employment.
  • Achieve TCEQ Class "C" Surface Water License within three (3) year of employment.
