Job Summary:

Performs routine administrative clerical support to assigned department. Work involves daily office tasks that may include front desk reception, answering, and transferring calls; receiving visitors; and providing general information. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Takes messages and schedules appointments.
  2. Greets callers and visitors, answers general questions, and directs customers to appropriate staff.
  3. Provides forms and general information to visitors and forwards completed forms to appropriate staff.
  4. Refers callers or visitors to services or resources at other agencies or organizations.
  5. May perform clerical or data entry duties.
  6. Work with various software programs and telephone consoles.
  7. Participate in payroll functions, bookkeeping and accounting procedures, invoices, prepare requests for quotations and purchase orders.
  8. Assist in the preparation of daily cash receipts reports and financial reports.
  9. Performs related work and reports as assigned.

  1. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
  2. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
  3. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
  4. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

Required Education:

High School diploma, GED or equivalency

Education Preference:

Community college, vocational, business, technical, or correspondence school certificates

Required Work Experience:

Six (6) months of clerical experience

Experience Preference:

One (1) year of clerical experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

a. Requires a working knowledge of general office procedures and policies, as well as general office equipment and computers.

b. Work may require providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies.

c. Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.

d. Proficient computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment; includes Excel, Word, Publisher, database management, and record keeping.

e. Excellent typing, filing and telephone etiquette skills.

Work Conditions:

The employee works under typical office conditions, and the noise level is usually quiet. Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work.
