Job Summary:

Performs preventative vehicle and equipment maintenance for assigned departments. Managing the cost of vehicle repairs, ordering parts, prioritizing vehicle maintenance list, maintaining maintenance records, ensuring interior equipment and electronics are functioning correctly, maintaining an inventory of parts, fuel and motor oils.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Order and process parts and supplies as needed while maintaining inventory of motor oils and fuel needed.
  2. Record daily data needed for preparation of monthly reports.
  3. Complete and check all invoices and repair orders; manage cost of repair and maintenance quotes.
  4. Service and lubricate City vehicles and equipment.
  5. Provide support for video equipment and other electronics, as needed.
  6. Clean and maintain shop area, City vehicles, and equipment as needed.
  7. Perform related work and reports as assigned.

Conditions of Employment:


  1. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
  2. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense
  3. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
  4. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

Required Education:

High school diploma, GED or equivalency.

Education Preference:

Technical School with emphasis on automotive and/or Diesel mechanics.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  1. Requires a working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities.
  2. Requires a working knowledge of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance of electrical, hydraulic, air, water, and mechanical systems and components of the department fleet.
  3. Requires working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.
  4. Requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.
  5. Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.
  6. Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
  7. Knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures related to fuel and motor oils inventory
  8. Provide effective customer service.
