Diagnostic Medical Sonography: Program Chair/ Instructor

Overview:

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Diagnostic Medical Sonography {DMS) Instructor to begin at our Main (Clifton) Campus location. Qualified candidates will teach college-level courses to our technical degree students in our Health and Public Safety (HPS) Division.

Responsibilities will include instructing students and providing relevant class/lab experiences needed to assist them in the successful completion of their program. Instruction will primarily take place in a classroom, but may include online learning as needed.

The individual selected for this position must be willing to provide program leadership and serve as Chair of the DMS Program. This individual will be responsible for maintaining accreditation, revising curricula to meet accreditation standards, assisting with student advising, collaboration among program faculty, and working with the community to assure student success. Faculty are expected to work collaboratively with other members of the Health and Safety Division and support the activities of the DMS Programs, Health and Public Safety Division and the College.

Essential Duties:


  • Supervise the development of new courses/curricula and the maintenance of existing courses/curricula. Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials
  • Ensuring the effectiveness of all clinical affiliates is maintained by overseeing, monitoring, and communicating with the Clinical Coordinator regarding student clinical rotations, the number of cases , and the completion of required competencies by students
  • Counsel and advise DMS students and prospective
  • Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning
  • Actively participate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Divisional and College, meetings, and committees, including organizing and leading advisory committee
  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested time
  • Teach courses at a variety of times (day or evening) and locations in response to institutional needs
  • Schedule the maintenance and upgrades of laboratory equipment and supply accruement
  • Maintain and develop community relationships as required for the growth and success of the DMS Program
  • Instruct DMS courses and scan labs in General imaging and additional sonography curriculum courses as needed
  • Teach assigned introductory and upper-level courses following established course descriptions, course objectives, and
  • Remain current in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography field and relate information to teaching responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the field
  • Abdominal and Obstetrics & Gynecology Sonography certification
  • Possess the appropriate credential(s) specific to one or more of the sonography concentration(s) offered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Have documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance and in educational theories and techniques. Documentation of experience in educational theories and techniques may include completed college courses, seminars, or in-service sessions on topics including, but not limited to, learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, or assessment techniques.
  • Have a minimum of two years of clinical experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in healthcare related
  • Cardiac and/or Vascular Sonography certification
  • On-line distance education instruction experience preferably using Blackboard
  • Management leadership experience in a DMS program accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education

  • Team player that is self-motivated with strong organizational and planning
  • Demonstrated skill in teaching, using applied academic methods, including active and collaborative learning and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities
  • Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software are required
