SUMMARY

Responsible for managing and supervising the day-to-day activities of the networking team. Acts as lead advisor and resource an all WAN, LAN, SDWAN, cloud IaaS and SaaS interconnects and production automation networking projects. Primary contact for vendors working on network, data center, telecommunications, and cloud connectivity/interconnectivity related tasks. Engages, collaborates, designs, and guides implementation of networking solutions required by and with production automation team leaders while maintaining security best practices and ensuring scalability, maintainability, and cost controls.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Act as the focal point for networking and cloud connectivity administration and governance.

  2. Represents the network team and network infrastructure within the corporate IT hierarchy and, upon request by IT leadership, within meetings and internal engagements.

  3. Responsible for mentoring and developing the skills of his team members.

  4. Responsible for participating in interview of and hiring recommendations for potential new networking team members.

  5. Responsible for developing and implementing standards, policies, and procedures for effective management of LAN/WAN/SDWAN and production automation network resources.

  6. Protocol management; including LAN/WAN traffic analysis, standardization of core network protocols and the implementation thereof.

  7. Backbone network design and administration, including Ethernet switches, routers, wireless infrastructure, IP camera ecosystem and structured wiring.

  8. Standardization of hardware and software configurations for networking devices and management systems.

  9. Historical reporting of network performance and uptime for key applications and systems.

  10. Project management of Network initiatives and goals.

  11. Research new and evolving technologies; determine how they can be applied to the existing structure.

  12. Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.

  13. Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house networking systems.

  14. Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including POC, MVP and UAT for networking and closely related systems.

  15. Assist other IT teams in their core functions where functional overlap and prerequisite dependencies with networking team duties apply

  16. Whenever necessary, liaise with third-party support and equipment vendors to resolve system issues.

  17. Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future networking needs.

  18. Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college/university or equivalent real-world experience in the following:

  1. 8+ years' experience in networking administration and implementation.
  2. 4+ years' experience in networking design and architecture including current standards and practices
  3. 2+ years' SDWAN Design, Architecture, and Implementation
  4. 2+ years' team leadership and/or management experience

Computer Skills

Understanding of LAN and WAN equipment, including routers, switches, wireless infrastructure, IP camera infrastructure, VoIP, various communication circuit types and SDWAN edge solutions. Facile and near-expert working knowledge of Internet, Intranet, and cloud networking concepts and technologies. Understanding of protocol analysis and management. Facile understanding of telecommunications concepts. Good understanding of structured wiring systems. Experience with production automation networks and network concepts. Experience with Azure and AWS cloud networking solutions. Oracle Cloud networking and IaaS experience a plus.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Facile knowledge of switching / routing technologies
  • Facile knowledge of firewall / VPN technology.
  • Understanding of production automation networking technologies and automation techniques
  • Experience with automation such as REST API< Asnible, Python, Powershell, YAML
  • Basic understanding of virtualization technology such as VMWare, Hyper-V, etc.
  • Cloud networking experience and expertise, especially with AWS and Azure. Oracle IaaS and networking a plus.

WORK LOCATION AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to travel to regional business offices, manufacturing facilities, and other locations as required - Up to 25% travel
  • Remote work is acceptable with periodic travel to core locations for engagement and interaction with key stakeholders and leadership
