A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DSP)

As a social services professional, you play an essential role in working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a group home setting. You are responsible for providing the necessary support to enhance the quality of life for the individuals we serve while following specified individual service plans (ISP). By providing support, you help them maintain their personal property as well as promote new activities, socialization, and community engagement.

In addition, you interact with other staff members and supervisors as well as provide additional support wherever it's needed. Each day you come to the group home, you make sure you're aware of any new programmatic concerns or status issues for the individuals you work with. You stay informed of our emergency protocols in case of a crisis as well as ensure that the facility remains clean and all supplies are organized. Safety is of the utmost importance, and you make sure that the well-being of the individual you work with is always a priority.
