Internship and Experiential Learning Coordinator
The Internship and Experiential Learning Coordinator is a member of The Aspire Center team and is the key point person for students and employers interested in drawing upon the talents of Carthage students through a variety of experiences, such as student employment, internships, job shadowing, service projects, course-integrated learning, and post-graduate experiences.
PHASE I PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES
The following will take place during the first 6-12 months of the position
- Manage special student employment programs, such as the PATH program (an off-campus student employment/scholarship program) and provide a leadership role with on-campus student employment.
- Organize candidate pools to connect students with specific project-based learning experiences, internships, jobs and other related experiences.
- Contribute to student engagement and external relations goals; participate in qualitative and quantitative data collection and assessment efforts.
- Collaborates with the Director of External Relations and Community Engagement to identify internship employers, solicits their involvement in the internship program, and organizes internship materials in the database.
- Conducts site visits to evaluate appropriateness and relevance of internships for students.
- Provide resources and training to employer partners on and off campus on topics related to recruitment, mentoring, evaluating and supervising students using relevant tools, such as Handshake and PeopleGrove.
- Implements internship policies and procedures, including internship for credit process.
- Plans and conducts internship workshops and information programs.
- Trains and supervises student staff to input internship information into a database and maintains written information.
- Assesses the effectiveness of experiential learning programs.
- Coordinate Experiential Learning Fund for students with unmet financial needs pursuing internships, research and clinical experiences.
PHASE II PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES
The following will take place starting in July 2023 and continue forward
- All programs and initiatives from Phase I will continue
- Facilitate training for on-campus and off-campus supervisors/employers to increase the number of available opportunities for students and to enhance the value of learning available for students through part-time employment, research, internships, and other related career-building experiences; provide guidance and resources on how to recruit, mentor, and supervise students, as well as how to be involved as a partner on campus and to use relevant tools, such as Handshake (job/internship posting system) and PeopleGrove (The Aspire Network/alumni directory and mentoring portal).
- Cultivate relationships on-campus and off-campus to ensure students have necessary access to mentors, internships/research experiences, and post-graduate opportunities
- Meet with alumni and friends of the College to mobilize volunteers and support on-going fundraising and donor stewardship, as needed
- Organize candidate pools to connect students with specific project-based learning experiences, internships, jobs and other related experiences
- Develop student engagement and external relations goals; participate in qualitative and quantitative data collection and assessment efforts
- Develop grant based internship funding for equitable practices in the internship experience. Recruit, place, monitor, and track students in Internship programs.
- Create on campus internship program
- Works collaboratively with faculty and administration to create policy and procedures for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of internships.
- Arranges meetings with faculty and academic department chairs to identify and promote relevant internships for specific majors.
- Develops and revises internship policies and procedures.
- Coordinates and administers all aspects of the internship program.
- Identifies, develops and monitors current internship sites.
- Works with faculty to identify and promote internships.
- Develops an internship manual and promotional material and updates it as needed.
- Research appropriate websites as they support the program.
- Makes presentations to campus community and business community on experiential learning.
- Collect and organize all experiential learning opportunities into a singular database including internships, study tours, research, practicum, clinicals and field work experiences.
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree or equivalent preferred
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Possess effective written and verbal communication skills across mediums.
- Able to use relevant technology tools, such as a customer relationship management system (like SalesForce, Less Annoying CRM/LACRM, Raiser's Edge, or others) and similar productivity, reporting, and communication tools. Familiarity with Smartsheet, Handshake, and/or PeopleGrove are helpful, but not required
