The Director of Leadership & Annual Giving is responsible for the strategic management and execution of The Carthage Fund, a comprehensive, integrated, annual fund program, as well as the management of the leadership annual giving donor pool. The Director plans and executes an annual program that results in ever-increasing sustainable financial support for Carthage College, increased alumni donations, and volunteer involvement. The Director oversees all broad-based fundraising initiatives including direct mail, crowdfunding, phonathon, and social media applications. The Director manages all student-related fundraising efforts, such as the Senior Class Gift Programs, student crowdfunding campaigns, and the organization and activities of the Student Alumni Association.

The position reports to the Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Execute a year-long fundraising plan; determine the audience for each solicitation; create and write appropriate and effective fundraising messages; deliver the solicitation in a timely manner through the appropriate channel (email, mail, phone call).
  • Devise a year-long schedule of solicitations across various funding channels (alumni, parents, and friends), which complement one another and integrate with alumni engagement messages and events.
  • Plan and execute the annual Carthage Giving Day, a cross-campus, one-day giving challenge, including the solicitation strategy, alumni events, campus events, and follow-up.
  • Integrate the Student Call Center in the strategic plan; develop phonathon fundraising plan for the year; hire and train student callers during key points in the year; work in partnership with the Phonathon Coordinator, who manages the day-to-day operations of the Center, to ensure its successful operation.
  • Manage the planning, logistics, and execution of crowdfunding efforts across all departments and divisions of the College.
  • Create and manage a leadership level annual giving fundraising program.
  • Analyze complex data sets concerning constituent populations, giving levels, trends, and gift frequency. Summarize and present data in a clear and compelling manner verbally and in writing, and use this information to make data-based decisions about solicitation strategies.
  • Work closely with gift officers to offer programmatic support, provide information, and include prospects in solicitations and volunteer opportunities.
  • Plan giving campaigns for reunion groups throughout the year around reunions; create and write fundraising messages for each group; provide updates and analysis of efforts.
  • Oversee the Student Alumni Association and the Senior Class Giving Programs.

DESCRIPTION OF NONESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist and staff special events and celebrations.
  • Offer support, guidance, and spend time with the Senior Gift committee.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises 3 to 4 student interns. Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with College policies and applicable employment laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)

  • Requires education generally equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Requires 2-4 years of experience or related experience in annual giving/fundraising.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with potential donors, college administrators, and faculty members.
  • Requires the ability to use a personal computer, Web browser, Microsoft Office Suite, as well as experience with donor management databases such as Raiser's Edge and report writing programs.
  • Requires knowledge of and the ability to use a variety of standard office equipment such as a telephone, computer keyboard, and a photo copier/printer/scanner.
  • Requires the ability to travel occasionally to complete college business.

Work is performed in an office environment in a variety of work locations throughout the Carthage Campus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate and typical of a campus office environment. This varies based on occasional work travel environments.
