Rate of Pay: $17.00 per hour


An additional $2.50 per hour temporary wage incentive will be offered for all hours worked July 25, 2021 through December 31, 2021.

Hourly rate and wage incentive will be paid on a bi-weekly basis.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

The Technical Theater Assistant is a part-time position responsible for assisting the Technical Director with stagecraft classes and volunteer technical theater programs. Works with professional and community groups at the Performing Arts Center and various locations in the community.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed)

  • Read, understand and draft theatrical ground plans, construction drawings, lighting plots, and schedules
  • Repair and maintain theater spaces, support areas, equipment and inventory as directed
  • Manage technical activities during rehearsals and performances, including but not limited to, stage management, lighting, scenery, sound, property construction, scenic art, and wardrobe
  • Teach stagecraft classes and assist and train volunteers
  • Ensure all possible safety measures are observed by program participants, visitors, and employees
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled and assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Theater or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience, knowledge, training, and skills related to the performing arts
  • Minimum of two years experience in theatrical productions required
  • Rigging expertise and/or certification for a full fly rigging system
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns; which includes, but is not limited to, convictions for reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving
  • Experience and knowledge in stage management, lighting, scenery, sound, property construction, scenic art, wardrobe and all other technical aspects of live theater
  • Considerable knowledge and expertise in any one of the technical aspects of scenery construction (wood, steel, welding, & plastic)
  • Experience in lighting design and execution and sound design and reinforcement
  • Excellent organizational, planning, scheduling and analytical skills
  • Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities. Must be self-motivated.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, Elected Officials, outside renters and members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E.), community groups, theater guests and the public
  • Ability to formulate and enforce strict safety plans for all participants and patrons
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to perform manual labor while working with scenery construction and design and equipment
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays and substitute when needed
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting constraints and staff availability
