SME Electrical Systems Engineer to support the JPL Electrical and Power Systems Engineering Group, reporting administratively to the JPL Technical Group Supervisor and programmatically to the Lead Systems Engineer. Will work independently and within a team environment, collaborating on tasks performed across a spectrum of disciplines and have excellent writing and oral presentation skills.


  • Developing and documenting electrical interface systems engineering products including electrical interface and grounding requirements and verifications, ground trees, electrical interface function lists and circuit data sheets, and electrical services resource reports.
  • Developing and documenting electrical systems engineering products including power and energy models and margin reports, power requirements and verifications, and functional design.
  • Assignment will be to support the effort working on the group's deliverables.
  • Specific near-term tasks include:
    • Maintaining switch.
    • Support verification and validation of power.
    • Supporting power and electrical, grounding, and system trade studies.
    • Reporting and presenting power, electrical, and grounding issues, trades, status, and results to the systems engineering team.
  • Work on tasks such as generating sectional and/or end-to-end electrical interface analysis results using Matlab, MagicDraw, SPICE, HyperLynx, CAESAR and Capital analysis tools; management of the electrical systems engineering product deliverable schedule and receivables/deliverables; and preparing test procedures.
  • Collaborating with EMC, reliability, Power, Harness, and Fault Protection teams with issue resolution, requirement specification and waiver mitigation and documentation.
  • Preparing system engineering change request (ECR).
  • Defining and implementing the electrical systems engineering model-based systems engineering product development process.
  • Supporting the circuit data sheet development process using CAESAR and Mentor Graphics Capital suite of tools.
  • Support preparing Power Functional Design Description (FDDs) content and system level power requirements and their verifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active Top Secret (TS) clearance based upon Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) within a 5-year scope and must be approved for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.
  • Education: Must have a bachelor's degree with 15+ experience, master's degree with 10+ years. Or a PhD with 7+ years in the field of engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Experience within a multidisciplinary system engineering or test.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of processes that are used to verify/validate the design requirements.
  • Experience in testing of systems, including test planning, test procedure development, and data.
  • Experience with development of formal procedures and documentation relating to space flight hardware.
  • Ability to react to frequent changes in plans and excel in a rapid pace concurrent engineering.
  • Understanding of Laboratory policies and procedures, NASA policies and procedures, and government regulations across a range of applications.
  • Understanding of the proper application of JPL design principles, flight project practices, hardware-handling constraints, and the JPL risk management practices.
  • Availability to support frequent foreign travel.
  • Experience using ECAD tools for design.
  • Experience in using circuit and system level electrical modeling and analysis tools, specifically with SPICE and HyperLynx tools.
  • First-principles working knowledge of all major spacecraft.


  • Demonstrated subject matter expert at the group level or higher in Space Vehicle Electrical and Power Systems Engineering.
  • Previous JPL experience in Systems Integration and
  • Previous JPL experience in performing V&V utilizing system level test beds.


This position is located onsite.
