The Leadership and Business Fellow will work in the Leadership Office (Artistic Director, Executive Producer, Leadership Office Manager) and the Business Office (Chief Financial Officer, Controller), both independently and as part of these small teams on special projects and ongoing tasks. Sharing time in the Leadership and Business offices, the fellow will have the opportunity to see the organization from the ground level up to the existential level. This experience will prepare future artistic directors and managing directors for the multifaceted tasks that are required to run an outstanding not-for-profit theater.
Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): Board of Trustees relations, budget analysis, financial reporting and tracking, writing projects, and research projects. The Fellow observes senior staff, board, and committee meetings. Unique projects are assigned according to current needs of the organization and interests of the fellow (you!).
The Leadership and Business Fellow will have opportunities for building skills in:
- Executive-level reporting
- Season planning
- Project and time management
- Team management and collaboration
- Decision making
This is the perfect opportunity for emerging theater leaders. Spanning both sides of the spectrum, the best part of the experience is seeing what comes through the leadership and business offices. Passion and gumption are required to run a theater, and the Leadership and Business Fellowship will demonstrate how to translate that passion into real-life skills.
The ideal candidate will possess a spirit of inquiry and investigation, an enjoyment of working both independently and with a team, as well as excellent writing, communication, and analytical skills. The Leadership and Business Fellow should be able to work with corporate executives, political and business leaders, staff and artists with discretion. Critical thinking skills and a sense of humor are important for this fellowship. Familiarity with Excel is a plus!
Additional expectations: occasional evening and weekend hours by mutual arrangement.
You might be interested in this fellowship if you want to pursue a career in theater management, theater artistic direction, or small business management.
