Title: Electrical Groundman

Location: Various locations within Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia

Reports to: Foreman

This role provides logistical support and assists as directed in the installation, rearrangement, operation, maintenance, and repair of all Underground, Transmission and Distribution systems and associated equipment. You will learn various types of tools, cables, materials, and equipment associated with Underground and URD maintenance and construction. Transportation will be provided to work sites from the Beaver Yard location. Come join the Anchor Family!!

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist higher classified employees as directed in the installation, removal, and maintenance of underground cables and equipment.
  • Organizes and maintains tools and materials associated with all Anchor Construction work.
  • Inventories tools and materials at the beginning and end of each shift for all vehicles at the job using provided. Maintains daily vehicle cleanliness and organization.
  • Sets up safety equipment works as confined space attendant or assists attendant.
  • Assist higher classified employees as directed in the installation and removal of all Underground and URD cables in manholes or direct buried systems as directed.
  • Assist higher classified employees as directed in the lifting and replacement of slabs and grates on manholes.
  • Assist higher classified employees as directed in the lifting and replacement of transformers, switches, and components.
  • Rod and seal ducts, clean manholes, and limited size oil spills. Cleans, sweeps work areas, cleans, and maintains company vehicles.
  • Respond to callouts after normal working hours.
  • Sets up protective work area equipment.
  • Assists qualified personnel with atmospheric testing, opening, and ventilating manholes.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends to fulfill project requirements, project emergencies, outages, and other events
  • Perform general housekeeping duties.
  • Assists with heating and preparing gel compound and solder for splicing.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, hydraulic presses and cutters, battery operated power tools of the same.
  • Under direction prepares splice kits for higher classified employees.
  • Drives company vehicles and works to possess a DOT driver's license.
  • Loads materials, secure loads, delivers tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Make fresh water daily and prepares vehicles for work at beginning of the shift.
  • Successfully completes all training requirements for advancement for step 1.

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • May assist Foreman with assignments while on site
  • May perform other duties as assigned by Dispatch, Superintendents and/or Foremen

Required Qualifications:

  • Must Successfully complete company orientation and minimum of 6-Month Safety preparation period.
  • Must work to obtain a DOT commercial driver's license.
  • Must Read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Possess the ability to learn the knowledge of various types of underground cables and associated equipment. Possess the ability to learn general safety rules and operating procedures.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to identify and use hand tools and various power tools.
  • Possess working knowledge of applicable Company safety regulations and general

First-Aid methods.

  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be post probational period of a minimum 6-month employment with Anchor Construction.
  • Spanish fluency a plus

Must be able to:

  • physically stand, bend, squat and lift heavy objects
  • dig ditches, pits, trenches and foundations in preparation for job site construction
  • walk on uneven ground
  • stand for prolong periods
  • lift and carry weights varying up to 50 lbs and above with another team member.

Moderate to Extreme

Constant exposure to extreme atmospheric conditions (temperature, noise fumes, dust, etc.)

Exposer to the outdoor elements (cold, heat, rain, snow, etc.)

Noise level is loud
