The Certified Coding Manager is oversees medical coding operations at South City Hosipital, and is responsile for ensuring that coding staff perform their duties efficiently/accurately and handle records and data according to health privacy regulations. This position will lead the business processes for Hospital Coding Services, Clinical Documentation Improvement and Release of Information. Reporting to the Director of Revenue Cycle and HIM Director, Coding & Clinic Doc, this position is responsible for managing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the hospital inpatient and outpatient coding staff, documentation improvement staff and coding auditors
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assures the quality of the coding function; demonstrates current knowledge and interpretation of medical standards, PRO guidelines, implementation of DRG review, and procedures.
- Establishes an effective and on-going channel of communication with physician advisor, physicians, administration, supervisors, and ancillary personnel.
- Develops, implements, and enforces policies, supervises department staff; assists in the development of a workable and efficient department budget.
- Identifies and meets the educational needs of the department staff.
- Helps select and orient new employees.
- Coordinates departmental activities with other departments and personnel.
- Maintains all required documentation, and sets an example to staff and other employees by professional attitude and behavior.
- Ensuring compliance with medical coding policies and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as appropriate.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management/Administration or related field
- At least 5 years experience in Health Information Management department with at least 3 years in management
- RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator), RHIT (Registered Health Information Technologist)
- CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) Certification, CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
- Preferences:
- Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
- Privacy Regulation knowledge
