General Call for Volunteers

Become a history maker! Help others by sparking discovery through Ohio History!

Ohio History Connection has all sorts of opportunities to volunteer nearly every day. We offer something for everyone, including some limited virtual opportunities. Whether you're a history buff or just appreciate opportunities to learn and serve others, we're always looking for folks to help. We can accommodate a variety of time commitments from an occasional event to several times a month. We can also help you meet community services requirements for school and work.

This is a listing of some of our most popular volunteer opportunities. We're happy to connect you to other departments within Ohio History Connection and direct your to other historic sites around Ohio. Just complete the application and tell us a bit about yourself and interests.

All volunteers must complete the application, pass a criminal background check (required for volunteering in organizations that service children), and complete orientation.

Public Program/Special Events Volunteer

A great way to get to know the Ohio History Connection, this position supports the large public programs organized by the Visitor Experience Department such as Dickens of a Christmas, All Hallows' Eve and Glorious Fourth. Help out for a day or two a year with tasks like facilitating crafts, line management and ice cream scooping.

Ohio History Center Floor Programs Volunteer

Help make the weekends at the Ohio History Center great by facilitating hands-on make-and-take projects, or one of our Fascination Stations. Volunteers must have great people skills and experience interacting with all ages and learning styles. A great position for college students looking for education and museum experience

Ohio Village Interpreter Volunteer/ T-shirt Volunteer

Every summer Ohio Village comes alive with costumed interpreters who help our visitors engage with and connect to history. Unlike our Time Share volunteers, these interpreters are "themselves," not characters from the past. Volunteers should have a love if history, strong people skills to talk with (not at!) visitors of all ages to help them make the most of their visit.

Education Program Volunteer

The Ohio History Connection hosts school groups year round for our immersive educational programs. These dynamic programs require a team of quick thinking, friendly educators, often in historic costume. This position is great for volunteers who have classroom experience, or are studying education. Volunteers will facilitate education programs in the History Center and Ohio Village on a variety of topics.

Historic Sites Clean-up Volunteer

Many times throughout the year, we need the assistance of kind members of the public to clear debris and pick up trash from our many historic sites across the state. This not only keeps our site system beautiful for all to enjoy, but it helps our environment by keeping trash from clogging waterways and natural habitats. We're able to accommodate individuals and groups of all sizes throughout the year, weather permitting. Interested in a corporate community service day? Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at 614-297-2500.
