The Director, Strategic Sourcing will lead the development and ongoing execution of global and domestic sourcing strategies for direct and indirect materials categories across a diverse set of affiliated manufacturing companies. Works collaboratively within and across businesses to identify alternative sources and drive strategies and projects to effectively manage cost and mitigate risk.
In collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering and Finance, develop an overall sourcing vision for direct and indirect materials, including defining and achieving short- and long-term category goals for reliability, quality, and cost of goods improvements.
Ensure that sourcing and supply strategies are aligned to manufacturing sites and unique aspects of "make vs. buy" options are considered
Negotiate vendor relationships and build processes to ensure regular interaction between the purchasing personnel at each company and suppliers to build positive relationships, ensure adequate supply and mitigate risks to manufacturing. Personally, cultivate and oversee key strategic supplier relationships.
Establish processes and metrics to measure effectiveness of supplier base. Work cross functionally with Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing and other internal teams to assess metrics, identify issues and work to implement corrective actions.
Implement regular supplier business review meetings to ensure that suppliers are aligned to and supporting the business strategy
Continuously examine supplier and marketplace risks and develop strategies to mitigate
Analyze developments in the supplier landscape and bring innovative thoughts and ideas into our sourcing strategies,
Resolve complex supply issues.
Mentor planning and purchasing teams to ensure supply of critical raw materials with no supply interruptions
In conjunction with Finance, develop sourcing and procurement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective spend management
Special projects as assigned
Skills and Abilities
High degree of technical knowledge in supply chain management practices and methodologies in a complex multi-product, multi-facility environment
Strong knowledge of the Purchasing function within a manufacturing environment, regulated industry experience such as Medical Device is a plus.
Proven track record in developing and implementing sourcing strategies that meet business objectives
Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
Demonstrated ability to influence and build consensus among members of the organization
Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to deal effectively with conflicting and changing priorities
Excellent analytical, inventory optimization and financial management skills
Demonstrated program and project management skills
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Supply Management, Engineering or Finance/Business. MBA is a plus.
7+ years of sourcing experience across categories. International sourcing experience a must.
CIPS, APICS, CPM certification preferred
Experience with domestic and international contracts writing
Experience working in regulated industry such as Medical Device is a plus.
Proficiency with ERP systems and business analytics tools. Oracle ERP a plus.
Practical working knowledge of Lean and/or Six Sigma principles resulting in measurable and tangible benefits to the organization.
